The big debate now is who won the trade the Broncos or the Bears. If you ask Mike Dikata they both won, if you ask me they both lost. Don't get me wrong the Bears get a great player, but what they gave up? Are you serious? At the end of the day the Bears gave up way to much for ONE player. Two draft picks and one player isn't bad. But, three draft picks and a player, well I'm wondering if the Bears need any ocean front property in Dallas? If you are the Bears you have to keep either the third round pick or Orton, and by that I mean the third round pick. Or atleast ask for Chris Simms.

The Broncos have been losing this trade since before McDaniels flew into Denver for the first time. Letting Shanahan go was a move of Lions like stupidity. Don't get me wrong something needed to be done, but letting him go was flat out dumb. The defense needed to be fixed and maybe he didn't want to let his DC go, but getting rid of Mike was wrong, maybe taking his GM power away would have been fine. But, you got rid of him and got a kid not even old enough to be President. And this guy ran off your 25 year old franchise quarterback. Ok maybe he is a little diva, you still don't run him off. Especially trying to get a guy who has only started one season since high school.

And since I live in Alabama let us have some college football quick hitters.

The quarterback battle for the Tide will be very undercover with Saban at the head, but I sure would hate to be the winner. New line + one brillant wideout + SEC defensive lines = nightmare. Don't get me wrong the recruiting classes have been stellar for three years now but two stellar years, didn't help anything with that line in the Sugar Bowl without Andre Smith. Tulane without Andre was shameful(special teams scored more touchdowns then the offense).

Auburn's Ben Tate was positive about the running game even with spread. Birmingham Sports talk dj, Jim Dunaway, thought of this as stupid spring talk. And even wrote it off as garbage because they were saying the same thing last spring. Yet, if you look at Malzahan's and Franklin's previous regime's they are rush and pass happy in respective order. Also let us take a look at Malzahan's kids in the pros and Franklin's kids in the pros. Malzahan=Darren McFadden and Felix Jones. Franklin well two washed up quarterbacks of Tim Couch and Jared Lorozen. Don't get me wrong I'm not promising Auburn to set rushing records next year but the proof is in the pudding when it works, the run will be on with Malzahan. Nothing is promised in the SEC ask Auburn and LSU via 2008 combining to lose 12 games!

T.O. And The Bills

The title of the blog sounds like the name of a horrible band. Not only would it be a horrible band, but this maybe the worst free agency pick up ever. I know this is old news, but I've been trying to come up with a positive spin. But, that is entirely to impossible. T.O. is an aging, mental, mess. Seriously, Tony Romo isn't good enough for him, how is JP Losman or Trent Edwards going to get it done? I mean we are talking about the man who ruined Mcnabb. And, seriously people stop with your honeymoon thoughts with this deal. Yes, the first year has been good in TWO other places. At both places they had tons of things together that the Bills have not had since the 90s. Point blank this is a match made in heaven of two losers.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thestonesfort.blogspot.com/2009/03/to-and-bills.html' title='T.O. One glaring comment is not as good of a coach as Tuberville. By no means will I start to disagree with it. In fact, I think its true. But, is this bad for Auburn? No! Unfortunately, I'm a Tubberville fan(looking back), but sadly it was time for change. Why was it time for a change? Don't you throw out stale cheese? And, I'm a firm believer of the vengeance theory. Seriously, your boss publicly trys to get rid of you. Are you not going to show him you are the best, and then want to leave the place. He did that, figured I've got a good thing, then got bored. And showed the man, I can ruin you. Started looking for another job and it blew up in his face, just like it blew up in Lowder's face. So how does one figure things are better for Auburn? Chizik by no means is a better head coach then Tubs, but he sure has some Tubs quailties. Be defense minded, hire solid people under you, recruit hard, and have INTENSITY. Its obvious he has a defensive mind. Gus, Trooper, Luper, Rocker, and Roof all have past success. David Oku, Aubrey Philips, and Bryce Brown mentioning Auburn when it comes to sign the Letter of Intent. Intensity so far can only be seen in the fact of how hard they are recruiting. Sadly, none of what the future at Auburn holds will be seen until middle of September.

The Downward Spiral

Some of you see the title "The Downward Spiral" and you may think of Nine Inch Nails, but I see what is taking place with Florida and LSU football. You probably read that last part and think this guy is borderline insane. Before you commit me, please take a look at what I’m about to say.

First is Florida - the theory on the downfall of the Gators is totally cliché, “what goes up, must come down.” How can you not hear Urban Meyer saying his dream job is Notre Dame and believe he will never go there, given his track record? I don’t believe he is a nomad, but he builds a program to its Everest. He raised up Bowling Green, took Utah to an SEC-like level, and appears to be on his way to 3 out of the last 4 national titles at Florida(next year too). So he has taken that program to higher levels then the “ol' ball coach.” So where to now?; your dream job of Notre Dame. Most of that is my opinion, but the key fact is straight out of the Meyer’s mouth. So where does that leave Florida in a tight market of good coaches? Stoops doesn’t want to leave, and Carroll isn’t going anywhere. Well, hey, Charlie Weis is looking for work!

Don’t get me wrong. I understand what I just said about Florida is a tough sale on the downward spiral, but LSU has already started. I’m not even sure it hasn’t already been broken by the hands of Les Miles. By all means, I believe Nick Saban built a totally solid foundation. I don’t believe he took it to its pinnacle; I believe he was about three years away. If a Geaux were reading this, he would tell me that they are fine and Jordan Jefferson is taking them to Pasenda next year. Don’t get me wrong - the foundation hasn’t left yet, as LSU continues to take players out of their home state where the talent pool is amazing and put a large sum of that into the NFL after they make like Bart Simpson and underachieve to the max. So what has Les Miles done with four and five star talent? He has had at least two loses every year, including a huge five in 2008. "Well, hold up son, he won a national title." That national title is the biggest embarrassment to the BCS - this coming from an Auburn fan who suffered through 2004. Can you really claim a national title with losses to Kentucky and Arkansas? And the five losses this year are borderline pathetic; it took a perfect fourth quarter to beat Troy. Sure, Jordan Jefferson is a potential star but he didn’t play because Les Miles thought a kid from Harvard could hang in the SEC.

Two great programs ready for demises, at the hand of change. Change in the future and change in the past that is just now ready to show its effect. After working the same job I have for three years, the number one thing I see that leads to chaos is change. Change is coming at Florida and change has already happened at LSU and is soon to take place again. This leads to the best four teams in the SEC for the next ten years being Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Welcome Home

Everyone and there daddy has a pointless blog, so here I come to join you. First off if you are a grammar nazi, please close out of this link, if you want to talk about 3-4, 4-3, cover 2, or how you hate the spread offense, please read, promote your blog, and comment. I won't completely talk about football, but I love football and want to hear from you. Any thoughts welcome thank you for stopping by and tell me what you thought of how nuts the NFL was this year. Myself I'm still confused on how the Arizona Cardinals are still alive. I think the Superbowl will be a battle of Archie's trade, Rivers vs Eli, by no means do I think these are the best two teams, but I think these guys are going to find away.
